Presidential Note
A message from Soloman Kim of KAC-WA
Dear KAC-WA members:
The month of May was filled with exciting events, community meetings and kickoffs. Among the most notable: the opportunity to meet Ha-ryong Lee, the new Korean consulate general to Seattle; the KAC social with the Korean American Bar Association of Washington and the Korean American Health Professionals Association; the KAC-WA community kick-off dinner celebrating the new board; and the merger of KAPS with KAC.
These events highlight exciting changes, along with the unity and vibrant growth of the Korean American community in the greater Seattle area. All these events are filled with first- and second-generation Korean American volunteers, community leaders and elected officials. I am constantly reminded of how every person’s contribution, involvement and volunteering spirit allows for our ongoing events and activities that extend throughout the year. My biggest source of pride comes from the tireless energy and service of our executive and advisory board members, who make our organization shine as they put forth a polished and professional face at every event promoted by the KAC-WA.
Last month, we were as committed as ever in engaging our community, and encouraged the registration of new voters so that more will participate in the electoral process. Throughout July, the KAC-WA will be conducting voter registration drives in preparation for Washington’s primary elections on Aug. 15. With other organizations, we will also co-host the annual KAC golf tournament to benefit the Korean Community Counseling Center (KCCC) on June 28 at the Trilogy Golf Course in Redmond, Wash. In addition, we will be meeting every month to continue planning the KAC National Convention held in Bellevue, Wash. from Sept. 25 to 28. By highlighting the KAC-WA chapter to our national sisters and brothers, this event will celebrate the past, present and future accomplishments of the KAC. I look forward to this convention, and to seeing many old and new friends that support and give so much to our beloved organization.
Thank you to all the KAC members and supporters. Until we meet again, take care and goodbye.
–Soloman Kim, President
